    Chengal

    Chengal is a heavy hardwood and its texture is fine and even, with shallowly to deeply interlocked grain. It is slightly difficult to resaw and is easy to moderately easy to cross-cut.

    Chengal is suitable for all forms of heavy construction, boat building, piling, marine construction, bridges, flooring (heavy traffic), heavy duty furniture, railway sleepers, door and window frames and sills, mallets, laboratory benches, decking, vehicle bodies, carving works and other uses where strength and durability are required.

    Dark Red Meranti

    Dark Red Meranti is a light hardwood. Its texture is moderately coarse and even, with interlocked grain. It is easy to saw and work and produces a smooth planed surface.

    Dark Red Meranti is suitable for furniture, fancy doors, partitioning, skirtings, high class interior finishing, door and window frames and sills, panelling, mouldings, decking, flooring, and other light constructional works.

    Durian Batu

    Durian Batu is a light hardwood. Its texture is moderately coarse to coarse, with straight to slightly interlocked grain. It is easy to slightly difficult to resaw and easy to difficult to cross-cut. Planing is easy to moderately easy.

    Durian Batu is suitable for light construction under cover, partitioning, mouldings, planking, cabinet making, flooring, panelling, railway sleepers, door and window frames, joinery, furniture, plywood, wooden sandals and low grade coffins.

    Kapur

    Kapur is a medium hardwood. Its texture is moderately coarse and even with straight or shallowly interlocked or sometimes deeply interlocked grain.

    Kapur is suitable for medium construction, posts, beams, joists, rafters, door and window frames and sills, fender supports, flooring, plywood, laboratory benches, column (light duty) and railway sleepers.

    Kasai

    Kasai is a medium hardwood. Its texture is moderately coarse but even, with straight or shallowly interlocked grain. It is easy to work when green but is slightly difficult to work when dried.

    Kasai is suitable for furniture manufacture, joists, rafters, joinery, cabinet making, railway sleepers, flooring (heavy traffic), columns (light duty), tool handles, partitioning, beams, panelling, posts, and interior finishing like mouldings and skirtings.

    Kekatong

    Kekatong is a heavy hardwood. Its texture is moderately fine and uneven, with straight to shallowly interlocked grain. It is easy to difficult to resaw and difficult to cross-cut. Planing is easy to slightly difficult and the surface produced is moderately smooth.

    Kekatong is suitable for heavy construction under cover, beams, cooling tower (structural members), posts, flooring (heavy traffic), fender supports, rafters, joists, railway sleepers when treated, door and window frames and sills, pallets (heavy duty and permanent tyrpes), tool handles (impact) and laboratory benches.

    Kempas

    Kempas is a medium hardwood. Its texture is rather coarse and its grain is interlocked. It is slightly difficult to resaw, and planing is easy in both conditions and the quality of the surfaces ranges from smooth to rough.

    Kempas when treated with preservatives is suitable for all heavy constructional works, fender supports, piling, rafters, flooring, posts, mouldings, railway sleepers, beams, marine construction, panelling, wharves, bridges, joists, plywood and charcoal manufacture.

    Keranji

    Keranji is a heavy hardwood. Its texture is fine to moderately coarse and even, with deeply interlocked and sometimes wavy grain. It is easy to very difficult to resaw and easy to difficult to cross-cut.

    Keranji is suitable for heavy construction, rafters, heavy duty furniture, beams, mallets, railway sleepers, joists, piling, bridges, panelling, posts, laboratory benches, poles, interior finishing, mouldings, gymnasium equipment, fender supports, joinery and cabinet making.

    Keruing

    Keruing is a medium hardwood. Its texture is moderately coarse to coarse but even, with straight to deeply interlocked grain. It is moderately easy to work with, planing is easy to slightly difficult and the finish is generally smooth.

    Keruing is suitable for heavy construction, joists, posts, beams, rafters, container flooring and when treated, suitable for railway sleepers, bridges, harbour works, power-line poles and telegraph poles.

    Light Red Meranti

    Light Red Meranti is a light hardwood. Its texture is coarse but even, with interlocked grain. It is easy to saw and work and gives a smooth planed surface.

    Light Red Meranti is very popular as a general utility timber, being suitable for furniture, mouldings, joists, piling, gymnasium equipment, heavy duty furniture, panelling, fender supports, laboratory benches, bridges, railway sleepers, rafters, posts, beams, interior finishing, poles, mallets, plywood and light construction works.

    Merbau

    Merbau is a heavy hardwood. Its texture is rather coarse but even, with interlocked grain. It is moderately easy to resaw and cross-cut when green but is slightly difficult when dried.

    Merbau is a very attractive wood, and is suitable for interior finishing, office fittings, musical instruments, superior joinery, cabinet-making, mouldings, flooring (heavy traffic), panelling, ornamental items and carvings.

    Mersawa

    Mersawa is a light hardwood. Its texture is moderately coarse but even. It is difficult to resaw and cross-cut and have a dulling effect on the cutters. The timber is difficult to plane but the surface produced is smooth.

    Mersawa is extremely popular as a plywood species. Other uses include light construction, beams, joinery, posts, packing boxes and crates, flooring, rafters, cabinet making, joists, furniture, tool handles (non-impact) and disposable chopsticks.

    Perah

    Perah is very hard and very heavy hardwood. Its texture is moderately fine and even with straight or shallowly interlocked grain. It is difficult to saw but planes well and produces a smooth finish.

    Perah is suitable for medium and heavy construction indoors and when treated, should be suitable for all heavy construction, columns (light duty), fence posts, flooring, tool handles (impact), railway sleepers, telegraphic and power line posts and cross arms.

    Red Balau

    Red Balau is a heavy hardwood. Its texture is moderately fine to slightly coarse and even, with deeply interlocked grain. It is easy to difficult to saw and work, although planing is easy and the surface produced is smooth to slightly rough.

    Red Balau is suitable for heavy construction under cover, posts, heavy duty furniture, rafters, plywood, joinery, cabinet making, beams, flooring (heavy traffic), vehicle bodies (framework and floor boards), pallets (heavy duty), fender supports, columns (heavy duty), tool handles (impact), joists, and cross arms (treated).

    Tualang

    Tualang is a medium hardwood. Its texture is rather coarse, and its grain is deeply interlocked. It is easy to resaw and cross-cut when green but is slightly difficult to resaw when dry.

    When treated, Tualang is suitable for all heavy construction, like posts, piling, beams, columns (heavy duty), joists, railway sleepers and power transmission poles. When untreated, Tualang is suitable for flooring (heavy traffic), mouldings, heavy duty furniture, panelling, fender supports, tool handles (impact) and plywood.

    Yellow Balau

    Yellow Balau is a heavy hardwood. Its texture is fine and even, with deeply interlocked grain. It is moderately easy to difficult to resaw and easy to difficult to cross-cut. Planing is easy to difficult and the planed surface is smooth to moderately smooth.

    Yellow Balau is suitable for all forms of heavy construction, marine construction, piling, beams, bridges, wharves, railway sleepers, boat building, plywood, joinery, cabinet making, mallets, fender supports, door and window frames, tool handles (impact), posts, joists, rafters, flooring (heavy traffic), decking and heavy duty furniture.
